Join us for an eclectic mix of visual delights and acoustic stimulation to celebrate the Chopin Year 2010 in Singapore.

Spend your Saturday evening at the Singapore Botanic Gardens and listen to 14-year old pianist Aleksandra Hortensja Dabek, a young talent from Chopin’s home country, play Chopin’s most famous pieces including his Mazurkas and the Revolutionary Etude.

Witness the Award Ceremony of the Sounds & Colours: Chopin in Singapore Photography competition which invited local photographers to interpret and place Chopin’s music, life and values in our culturally rich city. The winning images will be exhibited at the Visitor Centre at the Singapore Botanic Gardens.

Complete the evening with the main concert by avant-garde musicians DUO DUO, Katarzyna Borek and Karolina Piątkowska-Nowicka, who are joined by animation artist Maja Kuta to bring you a stunning visual and acoustical interpretation of Chopin’s music transcribed for piano and violin.

This visual spectacle is a delight for young and old to enjoy the beauty of Singapore’s Botanic Gardens while being entertained by equally beautiful music.

“Sara Goes To The Supermarket Garden” Tour

Sara, the Botanicosaurus is back! This time Sara, with her siblings and friends, visit the Supermarket Garden at the Singapore Garden Festival. Join Sara to learn about how produce and food are grown before they end up on our dinner plate. Discover fascinating facts and hear interesting stories about the banana, peanut, soya bean, sugarcane, sweet potato and many more yummy fruits and vegetables in this special garden. Alongside learning about plants which you can eat, pick up tips on being a nutritional winner by eating delicious greens to stay strong and healthy.

2010 has been declared as the International Year of Biodiversity by the United Nations. In honour of this declaration, Science Centre Singapore presents Genefest. It is being held during the Singapore Science Festival and follows the theme “Similarities in the Differences”. Through hands-on activities, interactive games, a gallery trail and show, students will learn that the genetic materials (DNA) that we all have in common is also what makes human being so diverse and unique.
